Eleven soldiers at the base were injured after ingesting an “unknown substance” during a training exercise, according to a press release issued Thursday by the 1st Armored Division and the Fort Bliss Public Affairs Office.
Two of those soldiers are currently in critical condition. The military base in Texas is investigating the incident, but few details are known at this time.
“All participants in the exercise are being monitored by medical personnel. Officials will provide updates as more information becomes available,” the release said.
The 1st Armored Division, also known as “Old Ironside,” is the U.S. Army’s famed armored division of 17,000 soldiers.
