The 17-year-old girl pilot of the plane that crashed at Dutchess County Airport on Sunday afternoon was left alive and unharmed, according to Fire Chief Lagrange.
She was the only person on board the downed Cessna 172 aircraft – the single-engine plane suffered an engine malfunction, causing it to crash into the woods. The plane capsized near Gidley Road, near runway 17 at Sky Acres Airport.
A statement from rescuers said the only 17-year-old American woman on the Cessna plane was able to get out of the plane without any injuries. The Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board are now investigating the cause of the crash.
