2 people and 14 dogs died in an accident on Interstate Highway 15 in eastern Idaho. A truck carrying animals to a Canadian shelter crashed near Shelley. The driver and passenger, both from Phoenix, died of their injuries. The New York Post reports this, citing a statement from the Idaho State Police.
Investigators say the truck was carrying 48 dogs to Calgary, Alberta, Canada. Several animals escaped. To date, 18 of them have been caught. 16 dogs have never been found.
The accident happened when a truck pulled out of the driveway and crashed into an embankment. According to authorities, the driver, Christopher Kracht, 40, was taken to the hospital, where he died from his injuries. His passenger, 38-year-old Anne Watson, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Local animal shelters will take care of the surviving dogs until the Society can take them to Canada, where new owners are already waiting for the surviving dogs.
