US authorities report more than 30,000 new cases of coronavirus, the highest daily total since May 1, according to data compiled by Johns Hopkins University.
New cases across the country are growing faster than ever, especially in the south and west. On Saturday, seven states recorded a record increase in incidence, especially in Florida and South Carolina. Missouri, Nevada, Montana, Utah and Arizona are also showing a sharp surge.
According to NBC News, a total of 23 new infections are observed in 23 states, in Guam and on the Virgin Islands, and the so-called pandemic plateau is only supported in 20 states and the District of Columbia. Some groups of new cases are young people who crowd in bars and at parties.
