The gym inside was closed during the coronavirus pandemic, so there were no large numbers of victims. The building on the corner of Cort and Union Streets in Carroll Gardens collapsed around 4:30 p.m.
Body Elite has been working here for 36 years. According to representatives of the fire brigade, the injured man was on the second floor of the building and was able to jump out during the collapse.
The building was under reconstruction, scaffolding remained on the side of Union Street. According to the city department of buildings, on June 10, the building issued an order to stop work due to a violation of safety rules. The exact cause of the collapse is still unknown.
