Los Angeles Zoo officials said they had to euthanize a pair of African lions that had lived together for years. According to the LAD Bible, Hubert was born in Chicago, while Calisa was in Seattle. They first met in 2014 and became inseparable companions.
But with age, their health seriously deteriorated – the couple required more and more attention from veterinarians. Nevertheless, the lions stayed together. In the end, management decided to euthanize the predators at the age of 21.
“I have to thank our animal care staff and veterinarians for the care they gave this couple,” explained Denise Verre, CEO of the zoo.
Employees say that the care of two beloved animals at once was a huge loss for the entire zoo.
