A 9-year-old Asian lioness has died of coronavirus at a state-run zoo on the outskirts of Chennai, India.
The zoo said in a statement that the animal’s death occurred last week.
The first symptoms were seen on Thursday, June 3. The lioness, named Nira, was assigned to a quarantine area at the zoo. The animal was treated with antibiotics.
The zoo said animal samples are being tested.
By the way, this is not the first case of coronavirus recorded in animals. Previously it was reported about COVID-19 in two white tiger cubs in Pakistan, in lions in Spain and other cities in India.
