A new type of coronavirus previously found in the UK has been detected in another country, Italy.
The genome of the SARS-CoV-2 virus, which has been found in Great Britain in recent weeks, has been isolated by specialists at Celio Military Hospital in Rome. The Ministry of Health said that the patient and his partner, who returned from Britain a few days ago, are isolated and together with a close circle of contacts.
Earlier it became known that a new strain of coronavirus was found in the Netherlands, Denmark and Australia – the same strain that was previously found in the UK. Specialists have reminded that the new type of coronavirus spreads faster than the already known, but we cannot yet speak of its greater danger. In addition, there is no evidence that the mutation of the virus responds differently to the vaccine.
On December 14, British Health Secretary Matthew Hancock announced that a new strain of the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus had been detected in the country and was spreading faster than the original form. According to him, the virus is more easily transmitted from person to person and is therefore more contagious.
