A record number of people died in the world in a day due to coronavirus

The number of people who died due to infection with the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus in the last day turned out to be a record for the entire time of the pandemic – more than 11.6 thousand deaths were recorded. This is evidenced by the data of the Johns Hopkins Institute project.

Another coronavirus “record” was broken: more than 666 thousand new infected people were detected in the same day.

In total, 1.29 million people have died from COVID-19-related causes worldwide. Most victims – 242 thousand – are in the United States, followed by Brazil, India and Mexico.

There are 52.8 million infected, with the United States also leading the way. 34.2 million infected worldwide, according to official figures, have already recovered.

In Russia, the record for the number of deaths was recorded a day earlier – 439 deaths were recorded per day. Over the past 24 hours, more than 21 thousand cases have been identified in the country.
