A Russian MiG-31 fighter intercepted a U.S. Air Force RC-135 reconnaissance aircraft over the Bering Sea.
It is noted that the fighter escorted the American plane until it moved away from the Russian border. According to representatives of the Defense Ministry, after the US plane turned around the MiG-31 returned to its home airfield.
The flight was made in accordance with international rules of airspace use. The Russian border was not violated.
In the last month the number of interceptions near the Russian border has increased. On December 8, Su-30 fighter jets flew to intercept two U.S. Air Force and one French Air Force aircraft over the Black Sea. The NATO reconnaissance vessels were detected by Russian airspace controls.
