In this way, the Israeli Prime Minister thanks the President of the United States for recognizing Israel’s sovereignty over the Golan
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu solemnly opened a sign on the Golan Heights with the name of the future village, which is to be built in honor of U.S. President Donald Trump, the politician’s office told Facebook.
The sign says “Ramat Trump”, which means “Trump Heights” in Hebrew. Netanyahu thus expresses his gratitude to Trump for recognizing Israel’s sovereignty over the Golan.
The Prime Minister noted that the creation of a new settlement for the first time in many years is the most important act of the settlement movement.
“We are proud that we have the opportunity to establish a settlement and to pay homage to a great friend,” the politician stressed.
Golan ownership is the main contentious issue between Israel and Syria. On March 25, Trump recognized Israel’s sovereignty over the Golan and named Jerusalem the capital of the Jewish State. Saudi Arabia and Kuwait condemned this decision, and the Russian Foreign Ministry noted that it could lead to a new wave of tension in the Middle East.
