Airbnb announced Wednesday that it is blocking all rentals in Washington, D.C., during the week leading up to the inauguration. That’s how the company is fighting hate groups that might come to the capital to cause a disturbance.
During this week, Airbnb continues to hear from the local host community, as well as from D.C. officials, police and members of Congress. In particular, Mayor Muriel Bauer stated that visitors should not travel to the D.C. area for the inauguration, among other things – due to pandemic restrictions. In addition, it has become known that hate groups are gathering around the country, ready to come to D.C. to disrupt the inauguration.
Earlier this week, Airbnb announced that its political fundraising group would refuse any campaign donations to lawmakers who voted against confirmation of the Jan. 6 election.
