He died in a battle with pancreatic cancer. Official Twitter post “Jeopardy!” confirms the death of the presenter. “He died peacefully at home early in the morning, surrounded by family and friends,” reads the post.
Born in Ontario in 1940, Trebek became famous for the show he hosted for over 30 years. He also participated in other television programs and starred in several films. He was diagnosed with cancer in early March, and the disease was already in stage 4.
In an article in The New York Times just days later, record holder Ken Jennings called Trebek “a member of our generation.”
