Almost 90% of restaurants and bars in New York cannot pay rent

Restaurants, bars and nightclubs have been hit hard by the COVID-19 pandemic – 9 out of 10 New York City establishments in August were unable to cover maintenance costs, including rental of premises.

NYC Hospitality Alliance analysis found that of 457 establishments between August 25 and September 11, 87% did not repay their rental fees. This is 7% more than in June. About 34% of places did not pay rent at all, the rest – partially, only 12.9% were able to make full payment.

In New York, all establishments can still operate only for take-out, without the possibility of serving customers inside.
