Amazon on Monday announced plans to hire 100,000 new workers across North America to keep up with the influx of orders.
The retail giant plans to hire full-time and part-time employees in the U.S. and Canada with starting wages of at least $ 15 an hour with benefits, as well as a sign-up bonus of up to $ 1,000 in select cities. The company previously announced the opening of 33,000 new corporate and technology jobs.
Most of the positions announced Monday will be created at 100 of the company’s new warehouse and manufacturing sites, with locations opening this month, said Dave Clark, Amazon’s senior vice president of international operations.
The company is expanding “its presence to better serve customers in the communities where they live” at a time when people are choosing to shop online rather than going to stores due to the pandemic.
