Amazon.com Inc. supports legislation to legalize marijuana at the federal level and will waive requirements for testing for marijuana use in hiring.
Many American states have legalized the use of marijuana. Still, many employers have so far largely refused to hire people associated with cannabis use.
“In the past, like many employers, we would not allow people to work at Amazon if they tested positive for marijuana use. However, given the change in state laws in the U.S., we changed course,” Dave Clark noted.
According to Westlaw, a class action lawsuit was filed against Amazon alleging that the company was violating New York law by testing applicants for traces of cannabis in their blood. Notably, the company does not allow the sale of marijuana on its platform.
