A Virginia man was arrested Friday at a checkpoint in Washington, D.C., after police found him in possession of fake identification as well as an unregistered handgun with 500 rounds of ammunition.
The man was identified as Wesley A. Beeler of Front Royal, Virginia. Beeler attempted to enter the area closed before the inauguration by showing fake passes. According to The New York Times, he was denied passage through a checkpoint located a half mile from the Capitol.
After searching the vehicle, police found a loaded Glock 9MM pistol, 509 rounds of ammunition, a 17-round Glock magazine and 21 rounds of 12-gauge shotgun ammunition. Beeler was arrested by U.S. Capitol Police and charged with carrying a concealed weapon, possession of an unregistered firearm, illegal possession of ammunition and possession of a high-capacity ammunition feeder.
This week, the FBI reported that the agency was monitoring “a large number of online conversations” regarding threats of potential violence at Joe Biden’s inauguration, including calls for armed protests.
