Capitol Police apprehended an armed man trying to get through a checkpoint with a fake pass in downtown Washington.
According to police, the man tried to drive a car into a restricted area near the U.S. Congress building on Friday night. His pass was ruled invalid. A handgun and about 500 rounds of ammunition for various weapons were found in his car. The man was apprehended and has already been charged with possession of a weapon without proper registration.
At the moment, law enforcement agencies in Washington are keeping downtown Washington and Capitol Hill under tight security. The inauguration of the new U.S. President Joe Biden is to take place there on January 20.
