An explosive device was found at the headquarters of the U.S. Republican Party in Washington.
According to the newspaper, the device was a homemade bomb, which was successfully destroyed by a bomb squad.
In addition, on Wednesday, January 6, the headquarters of the Democratic National Committee was evacuated after a suspicious package was found. According to a senior Democratic spokesman, the contents of the package have not been identified.
Earlier, due to protests by supporters of incumbent US President Donald Trump, a curfew was imposed in Washington from 18:00 on Wednesday, January 6, until 06:00 on Thursday, January 7 (from 02:00 to 14:00, January 7, Moscow time). During these hours, the streets may only be on the streets of those who have special permission, as well as employees of the emergency services and the accredited representatives of the media. The ban also applies to those who travel by car.
Earlier, Trump supporters clashed with police near the Capitol in Washington, D.C., and then stormed the building and surrounded the Senate chamber. The Senate and House of Representatives adjourned for a session to approve the results of November’s presidential election. Trump himself urged supporters to act peacefully and support the police. He later ordered National Guard troops to assist in Washington to maintain order.
