By the end of 2020, the number of people on the brink of hunger may increase by 130 million, UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres said on November 16 on the organization’s website.
“The COVID-19 pandemic is having a huge impact on the entire world. And of course, it has a huge impact on the state of global food security. The problem of hunger is on the rise again. I never imagined this would happen as part of my mandate as Secretary General,” – said the UN Secretary General.
Guterres noted that 690 million people worldwide suffer from food shortages.
“The World Food Program (WFP) continues to play a vital role as a provider of food and nutrition and hope,” he stressed on Twitter.
