Apple plans to increase iPhone production by 30%

Apple Inc. plans to produce up to 96 million iPhones in the first half of 2021, up nearly 30 percent from last year, Nikkei reported.

The company wants to boost production of all iPhone models, including the latest iPhone 12 line as well as older iPhone 11 and SE models, although shortages of key components due to the pandemic could prevent it from meeting that goal, the report said, citing insiders.

Also, a preliminary annual forecast that the iPhone maker sent out to its suppliers suggests that the company plans to produce only about 230 million iPhones in 2021.
