Baltimore records two earthquakes in three days

Two earthquakes have been recorded in Baltimore in the past three days, a notable event for a city that rarely reports earthquakes at all.

A 2.6 magnitude earthquake was reported Friday, and another 1.7 magnitude earthquake occurred around 2 a.m. Sunday. There were no reports of damage or injuries.

U.S. Geological Survey geophysicist Dan Blakeman notes that usually people hardly feel tremors of this magnitude. “There are often small earthquakes like this one, and we’ll have maybe three or four more. We call it a swarm, mostly because there are no real big aftershocks,” Blakeman noted.
