U.S. President-elect Joe Biden commented on the connection of the pogrom at the Capitol with the current head of state Donald Trump.
According to him, Trump is “deliberately encouraging the gangster group”, and this has led to the fact that the reputation of the United States in the world has been significantly damaged. Therefore, Biden believes, Trump is incapable of performing his duties.
However, Biden added, the decision on Trump’s possible impeachment should be made by lawmakers in Congress, and that is what he plans to negotiate with House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Democratic leaders in the U.S. Congress.
Trump’s term ends Jan. 20, 2021.
Previously, Pelosi said that Trump should be removed from power immediately. According to her statement, the country’s leader has committed “subversive acts” and should be removed under the 25th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution on the President’s inability to perform his duties.
On Jan. 6, protesting Republican supporters stormed the Capitol building and surrounded the Senate chamber. The Senate and the House of Representatives adjourned a session scheduled to approve the results of the last election. During the protests, five people were killed and police detained nearly 70 rioters.
