The State of California officially approved the results of the presidential election and appointed 55 voters to the panel to vote for the victory of Joseph Biden. Thus, he will gain at least 279 votes and become president of the United States.
Such steps are usually a usual formality, but not this time. All because of the position of his competitor – Donald Trump, who continues to deny the victory of Joseph Biden.
By the way, voter panels in the U.S. states will meet on December 14. That is when they will vote for the winner of each state.
The American electoral system assumes that one of the candidates will win not by the number of votes, but by the votes of the electoral college.
In most states, laws stipulate that voters must unanimously vote for the winner in that state. Therefore, Biden’s victory in the election is an almost accomplished fact.
When Joseph Biden becomes president:
- After the electoral college vote, these results have yet to be approved by the U.S. Congress. Voting will take place there on January 6, 2021.
- According to the American media, the recognition of Joseph Biden as the winner is supported by Democrats and most Republicans.
- The inauguration of the new US president will take place on January 20, 2021. This date is traditional in American political culture.
