Biden thanked Switzerland for organizing the summit

U.S. President Joe Biden met with his Swiss counterpart Guy Parmelin and Foreign Minister Iñazio Cassis on Tuesday, June 15, the White House press office reported.

“President Biden thanked President Parmelen for organizing the June 16 U.S.-Russia summit and paid tribute to Switzerland’s unique role in providing neutral territory for diplomacy and negotiations,” the press office said in a statement.

In addition, the meeting discussed the situation with the coronavirus infection, as well as the distribution of vaccines against COVID-19.

Switzerland intends to facilitate a prisoner exchange between Russia and the US. Ignazio Cassis, head of the Swiss Foreign Ministry, made such a statement at a press conference.

Answering the question, he said: “Of course it is. The answer is very simple. Switzerland is always ready to provide support for the exchange of prisoners.”

Kassis also added that with regard to the U.S. and Russia, Switzerland is fulfilling its mandate as a country of interest.
