President Joe Biden continues to sign a series of executive orders. His new directive requires the federal government to buy only American goods and services.
This is another attempt by Biden to achieve his goals administratively without waiting for Congress to support him. The new order echoes a pledge during the campaign to increase government purchases of $400 billion in American goods.
“President Biden will ensure that when the federal government spends taxpayer dollars, they are used to buy American-made goods produced by American workers and with American-made components,” the White House said in a statement. Biden will also reiterate his support for the Jones Act, which requires maritime transportation between U.S. ports to be conducted by U.S. vessels.
Last week, Biden signed an order of intent to raise the minimum wage for federal contractors and workers to $15 an hour.
