Kosovo is a partially recognized state that is de facto part of Serbia and has its capital in the city of Pristina.
The president-elect of the United States, Joe Biden, is demanding that the Serbian government immediately recognize Kosovo’s independence.
Biden said the U.S. government is still on Serbia’s side in its desire to join the EU, but that changes and reforms, including the establishment and normalization of political relations with Kosovo, are necessary to complete the country’s European integration.
In addition, the U.S. president urged the two countries to develop friendly relations.
In response, Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic said that Belgrade “must take care of its state interests” and “not give in to emotions.
For his part, Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic said that the government is working for the interests of its state, and that the need for mutual recognition and friendship is not described in any acts of any international organization.
It is worth remembering that there are more than 60 states that oppose Kosovo being an independent state, whose leader is Russia.
