The attitude of US President Donald Trump to the head of the Russian Federation, Vladimir Putin, remains unknown, said John Bolton, former White House national security adviser. It is reported by RIA Novosti with reference to his book of memoirs about work in the US Presidential Administration.
“(Trump) has never expressed any opinion, at least in front of me. I never asked what Trump thought, possibly fearing what I might hear. His personal attitude to the Russian leader remained a mystery, ”Bolton wrote.
At the same time, he noted that he was surprised by Trump’s decision to congratulate Putin on his victory in the presidential election in 2018. Bolton believed that this should not have been done because of the Skripal poisoning incident in British Salisbury.
The ex-adviser added that, as a result, the American leader decided to send 60 Russian diplomats from the United States.
In October 2019, it became known that Bolton intends to write a book about his work as a national security adviser. Trump fired him a month before, explaining his decision by a strong divergence of views on national security issues.
The court allowed the publication of the book, despite attempts by the presidential administration to ban the publication of memoirs.
