Borrel warned of possible violence after assassination of Haitian president

EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrel reacted to the assassination of Haitian President Jovenel Moise, who was shot and killed by unknown assailants in his own home.

Josep Borrel wrote that he was shocked by what happened and warned of a possible spiral of violence after the incident.

“I am shocked by the assassination of President Jovenel Moise of Haiti. Just three weeks ago we had a meeting at a diplomatic forum. This crime poses a risk of instability and the outbreak of violence. The perpetrators of this murder must be found and brought to justice,” stressed Borrel.

Recall that a group of armed men attacked the residence of the President of Haiti. The bandits shot Jovenel Moise and his wife, who died later of her wounds.

Martial law was declared in Haiti.
