Brazilian president admits connection of volunteer death with Chinese vaccine

Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro admitted that the death of a volunteer who was testing the Chinese coronavirus vaccine could be related to the drug.

According to the Brazilian leader, the possible suicide of a volunteer could be a “side effect of the vaccine.” It is noted that earlier Bolsonaro criticized the Chinese authorities and the vaccine itself, so he welcomed the decision of the Brazilian Health Surveillance Agency Anvisa to suspend its trials.

Trials of the Coronavac vaccine from the Sinovac laboratory were suspended on November 11 due to the death of one of the volunteers. The head of the Butantan Institute in São Paulo, which organized the trials, said the incident had nothing to do with the vaccine.

Sinovac Biotech Ltd. said they were confident in the safety of their vaccine. Last month, Chinese officials said 60,000 volunteers were injected with no complaints of serious side effects.
