On June 5, African-American Breonne Taylor would have been 27 years old, but she was killed two months ago by Louisville police
It is reported by CNN.
Breonna Taylor died when police officers burst into her house at night. The police detained residents of a neighboring house on suspicion of drug trafficking and they had information that drugs could be stored in Taylor’s house.
Officers received permission to search without warning. When they broke the door of a young man of Breonne in the middle of the night, Kenneth Walker decided that they were robbed and opened fire from his weapon. According to police, as a result of the shot, one law enforcement officer was injured. After that, the cops also opened fire, firing 20 times. 8 bullets hit Breonn, as a result of which she died. The drugs in the house were never found.
The Taylor family filed a lawsuit two months after her murder, demanding that they be charged with unlawful death, excessive force, and gross negligence. On May 21, the FBI office in Louisville announced the start of an investigation into the death of Breonne.
It has been noted that there have been few changes to the Taylor case since these official statements. The three officers who participated in the shooting at her house are still on vacation and no charges were brought against them.
The name Taylor has become an integral part of recent protests caused by the murder of George Floyd, and some of the demonstrations were dedicated to her memory. During a protest rally in Louisville on May 26 with the participation of Taylor’s friends and family, demonstrators stood outside Mayor Greg Fisher’s home and demanded the arrest of officers involved in her murder.
Recall that earlier in Minneapolis, police detained a black man. During the arrest, one of the policemen used a choking technique, stepping with a knee on the man’s neck. At the same time, the detainee, 46-year-old George Floyd, repeatedly told the white officer that he could not breathe. Due to the brutal detention, the man died. An autopsy confirmed that the cause of death was strangulation.
