British consul rescues drowning Chinese student

The British consul came to the rescue in time and rescued a drowning Chinese student. The tragedy almost happened in the suburbs of Chongqing on a popular tourist route.

The girl went down to the water, slipped, hit the stones and lost consciousness. The people around were shouting loudly, but none of them dared to jump down.

The real hero turned out to be 61-year-old British consul Stephen Ellison. Only thanks to his determination, the girl was saved. A Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman has already called the act “heroic.” And the British Embassy in Beijing said they are immensely proud of the diplomat.

Foreign publications point out that many people in China cannot swim.
