A California rabbi who was injured during a mass shoot at a synagogue pleaded guilty to tax fraud.
Rabbi Ysiroel Goldstein admitted that he secretly returned millions of contributions, giving donors fake receipts and making profit from this scheme. According to authorities, the founder of the synagogue in Southern California, which was attacked last year as a hate crime, personally earned at least half a million dollars on the scheme.
Tax losses to the Internal Revenue Service are estimated at more than $ 1.5 million over 8 years.
He was injured while shooting in the Chabad Poway synagogue on April 28, 2019. The rabbi was already under investigation when 9-year-old John T. Ernest opened fire on parishioners.
