Antara agency reports that in August 2020, the Association of Southeast Asian Nations and the Canadian government plan to adopt an action plan for the period 2021-2025.
In Jakarta, ASEAN Secretary General Dato Lim Jock Hoy said: “We look forward to the adoption of the new ASEAN-Canada action plan for the period 2021-2025 in August.”
It is known that ASEAN and Canada have already implemented two action plans, namely: the joint plan for 2010-2015 and the plan for 2016–2020.
In terms of joint actions for the period 2021-2025, cooperation will be envisaged in eight areas. Close cooperation will continue to develop in areas such as politics and security. Cooperation in the fields of economics, trade and investment will be further developed. The social and cultural spheres will not be left without attention. The parties expressed a serious intention to develop and strengthen micro, small and medium-sized businesses.
The Canadian authorities hope that the continuation of the expected discussions on the creation of a free trade zone with the Association of Southeast Asian Nations will bring a positive result.
