China accuses US destroyer of violating its maritime borders

A spokesman for the Chinese army demanded that the United States stop provocations: he accused the US destroyer John McCain of violating China’s maritime borders, Reuters reported.

“We demand that the United States immediately cease such provocative actions, tightly control military operations at sea and in the air,” reads the official account of the military department in the WeChat messenger.

The representative of China stressed that his country is ready to take “all necessary measures” in order to ensure its sovereignty and security, as well as stability in the South China Sea.

The statement was a reaction to the movements of the American military in the disputed area: “John McCain” passed near the Paracel Islands, which the Chinese state claims.

In late August, it became known that a US reconnaissance aircraft had invaded China’s no-fly zone. This happened while the Chinese army was training there.
