The Chinese side is concerned about the U.S. decision to sell weapons to Taiwan
The Chinese side strongly opposes the sale of weapons by the United States to Taiwan. The Chinese authorities adversely affect the U.S. decision to supply weapons to Taiwan.
This was voiced during the speech of the official representative of the Ministry of Defense of China Zhen Guoqiang on Tuesday, December 8, in response to media reports.
According to information, the U.S. State Department on December 7 at local time approved the sale of military telecommunication equipment to Taiwan for a total of 280 million U.S. dollars.
Answering the question of journalists on the subject, Zhen Guoqiang said that the U.S. sale of weapons to Taiwan grossly violates international law and the fundamental principles of international relations, flagrantly violates the principle of one China and three joint Sino-American communiqués, in particular, “Communiqué of August 17,” is a flagrant interference in China’s internal affairs, as well as an attack on China’s sovereignty, security and territorial integrity, undermines relations between China and the U.S. and the armies of the two countries, undermines peace and stability in the Taiwan area. In this regard, the Chinese side expresses strong discontent and strong objection.
Zhen Guoqiang said that Taiwan is an integral part of China, Taiwan’s key interests, foreign intervention is completely unacceptable. Any attempts by the U.S. side to restrain China through the Taiwanese question will not lead anywhere.
China urges the United States to adhere to the principle of one China and the three joint Sino-U.S. communiqués, immediately stop all projects to sell U.S. arms to Taiwan, stop the sale of weapons and sever Taiwan-U.S. military ties, so as not to further undermine peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait area and relations between China and the U.S. and the armies of the two countries.
China’s People’s Liberation Army has the determination, confidence and ability to resist separatist attempts in any form, said Zhen Guoqiang, stressing that the Chinese Armed Forces will take all necessary measures to resolutely defend the country’s sovereignty, security and territorial integrity.
