China’s Possible Response to U.S. Consulate Closure Revealed

China is considering the possibility of closing the US consulate in Wuhan in response to the decision of the Americans to terminate the work of the PRC diplomatic mission in Houston. The source disclosed this information to Reuters.

It is known that this American diplomatic mission is one of six in China. The US also has an embassy in Beijing, as well as consulates in Chengdu, Guangzhou, Shanghai, and Shenyang.

Earlier, the United States demanded that China close the Consulate General in Houston within 72 hours. The State Department explained that this is necessary to protect American intellectual property. Beijing called the decision a political mistake.

Prior to this, in Houston, local residents called firefighters to the Chinese consulate building, where diplomats burned documents in the courtyard. It was noted that at the same time they refused to let the arrived services inside.

On the eve of July 21, the State Department accused China of sponsoring hackers who were trying to obtain data on the COVID-19 vaccine. Two Chinese citizens were charged with espionage.
