Chinese Consulate General starts burning documents after US demands to close

In the backyard of the Chinese Consulate General in Houston, several garbage cans, presumably filled with various documents, began to burn. The footage from the scene was posted on Breaking911’s Twitter account.

Business Insider notes that this happened almost immediately after the demand from the US authorities to close the embassy. Firefighters and police are said to have been prevented from entering the building. Witnesses said that there was a strong smell near the Consulate General, reminiscent of burnt paper.

Earlier, the United States demanded to close the Consulate General within 72 hours. The Chinese Foreign Ministry called the decision a political provocation and a serious violation of international law and the Chinese-American consular agreement. Beijing calls on to correct the mistake and reverse the decision, otherwise China will retaliate.
