According to a new study, women who drink two or three cups of coffee a day have less fat in general and especially in the abdomen than those who drink less or no coffee at all.
The researchers reviewed data from the National Health and Nutrition Survey conducted by the Center for Disease Control and found out the relationship between the cups of coffee drunk per day and the total percentage of body fat and abdominal cavity fat. It was found that women aged 20-44 who drank two or three cups of coffee a day had the lowest obesity rate, 3.4 per cent lower than those who did not drink coffee. Among women aged 45-69 years, the obesity rate was 4.1 per cent lower.
Men were less obese, although men aged 20-44 who drank two or three cups a day had 1.3% less total fat and 1.8% less abdominal fat.
The results were published in The Journal of Nutrition.
