Combat drone for the first time in fully autonomous mode attacked people, according to a story published in the magazine New Scientist.
The authors refer to the report of the UN Security Council panel of experts on Libya. According to them, in March 2020, the Kargu-2 combat drone, created by a Turkish military and technical company, independently tracked a live target and attacked it. This happened as part of the conflict between Libyan government forces and Libyan National Army forces under the command of rebel Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar.
It is noted that the drone did not receive any human commands at that moment. Details of the case, as well as whether the attack of the equipment led to human casualties, are not reported. It is noted that the Kargu-2 drone is equipped with a bomb, which can explode on impact with the target.
In April, a video of the combat use of the Russian Lancet-3 attack drone was published – it destroyed a machine-gun point of the terrorists in Syria.
