Cruella, played by Emma Stone, was left without a mouthpiece

Hollywood actress Emma Stone talked about the difficulties of portraying on-screen the famous villain Cruella De Vil in the prequel “101 Dalmatians” because of Disney’s ban on smoking.

The film studio since 2007 banned the heroes of its projects to appear on the screen with a cigarette, so a characteristic detail of the image of Cruella – the mouthpiece with a cigarette – in the new picture will not appear.

“We’re not allowed to smoke on screen in a Disney movie. It was hard without that mouthpiece. I was so excited to see the green plume of smoke [in the original cartoon], but it was impossible to replicate that on set,” Stone explained in an interview with The New York Times.

At the same time, according to the actress, she would not want to promote smoking.

In 2015, Disney extended the ban on smoking in films to its subsidiaries such as Marvel, Pixar and Lucasfilm. Warner Bros., Universal, Paramount, and Sony later took a similar step. According to IndieWire, streaming platform Netflix announced its intention to ban smoking in its TV-14 rated series and PG-13 movies in 2019.

On May 21, the band Florence + The Machine unveiled the track Call Me Cruella, which will be included in the Disney film Cruella.

The world premiere of the film will take place on May 28. In Russia the picture will be released on June, 3. According to the plot the action takes place in London in the 1970s.
