Democrats named ways to remove Trump from politics

The Democrats do not have many ways to remove former President Donald Trump from politics, but the politician’s activism can only benefit his opponents. Rob Singh, a professor at Birkbeck (University of London), shared this opinion with

The only option left to the Democrats in the U.S. Congress, Singh called a resolution to censure the former president. He recalled that House Speaker Nancy Pelosi had already ruled out such a measure. “It is likely that they will try to create a bipartisan commission – modeled on the 9/11 commission – to investigate the January 6 riots, which could also further damage Trump’s reputation,” the expert suggested.

In addition, criminal and civil cases may be opened against Trump for his attempts to cancel the results of the presidential election and other possible offenses. According to the political scientist, if Trump manages to survive the potential lawsuits, he could run again in 2024 or try to become a kind of “gray cardinal” in the Republican Party.

That said, it could be to the Democrats’ advantage if Trump stays in politics. “Trump’s desire to maintain political influence, such as in the issue of the Republican Party’s nomination for the 2022 midterm elections to the U.S. Congress, could lead to a split within the party. Democrats would only benefit from that,” Singh explained.

On February 13, 57 senators voted in favor of impeaching Trump, with 43 opposed. The indictment required 67 votes out of 100. Thus, the initiative did not garner the necessary number of votes. The Senate acquitted former President Donald Trump.
