There’s no evidence that COVID-19 can’t spread in pool water, CDC doctors say.
So far, scientists have not received accurate data on whether coronavirus can be infected in swimming pools, hot tubs, spas or water playgrounds. For this reason, experts believe that proper maintenance, including chlorine and bromine disinfection, will inactivate the virus in the water. This means that if properly maintained, swimming pools in the USA can be opened in summer.
But even water disinfection does not mean that people should not be socially distanced or abandon hand hygiene. Pools will have to change the layout of sun loungers and tables to limit people’s capacity. Any entertaining or social gatherings of more than 10 people will be prohibited.
