EU representatives in Brussels said that they do not intend to authorize the use of Russian COVID-19 vaccine “Sputnik V”.
According to one of the representatives related to the process of certification of vaccines for the EU market, the Russian vaccine has not yet received permission to use it in the EU countries, as the developers have not provided the regulatory authorities with the request and documents necessary to permit mass production and use of the vaccine in the EU.
The European Medicines Agency is responsible for authorizing the use of medicinal products on the EU market.
The vaccine manufacturers Pfizer-BioNTech, Moderna and AstraZeneca started the process of registering their funds a few weeks ago.
Earlier, Israeli Ambassador to Russia Alexander Ben-Zvi said that Israel plans to buy from Russia a million and a half doses of vaccine “Sputnik V”.
He specified that now the vaccine is being tested by the Israeli Ministry of Health, and in case of successful passing it will be purchased.
