In less than a month more than 70 tons of medical waste was collected for fuel production.
In Galicia (Spain), they began making fuel from used masks, gloves, and protective suits of medical personnel working with patients with COVID-19.
It is reported that all of these products contain plastic. During production, these wastes are heated to 850 degrees Celsius as potentially hazardous, although normally it is enough to heat plastic to 400 degrees Celsius to recycle it into fuel.
The resulting fuel is used for space heating, as well as in heavy industry (e.g., cement production).
In just 3 weeks, Galicia collected more than 70 tons of medical waste related to COVID-19.
