Europe calls emergency meeting over coronavirus

President of the European Council (EU) Charles Michel decided to hold an emergency meeting due to the spread of the coronavirus. He wrote about this on Twitter.

The European politician has invited European leaders to an informal video conference, which is scheduled for October 29. “We need to strengthen our collective efforts to fight the coronavirus,” Michel explained.

Earlier it was reported that the first country in Europe – Spain – crossed the threshold of one million people infected with coronavirus for all time. With this indicator, the country climbed to sixth line in the list of countries with the highest number of infected citizens.

At the end of September, European Health Commissioner Stella Kyriakidis said that the situation with coronavirus in several European countries has deteriorated significantly. According to her, Europe may have the last chance to prevent an outbreak like the spring, so an urgent need to take anti-epidemic measures.

As of October 21, there are more than 40.9 million people infected with coronavirus in the world, of which more than 1.12 million have died, another 27.9 million have recovered. Most of the infected are registered in the USA, India, Brazil, Russia and Argentina.
