First edition of Harry Potter goes under the hammer for $90,000

Auction house in Britain sold the first edition of “Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone” for $90 thousand.

We are talking about a copy of 1997 issue. A 28-year-old woman, Charlotte Ramsay, happened to find the book at home during a housecleaning. According to the Englishwoman, her mother was going through some old items and was planning to sell it for 50p.

Hansons Auctioneers have confirmed that Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone is a copy of the first edition. The specialists offered to sell it at auction, thanks to which the former owners earned 90,000 dollars. Remarkably, the book was worth £10.99 at the time of its release.
