Florida broke the record for the number of coronavirus infections recorded in one day since the pandemic
The State Department of Health reported 1,698 new cases of COVID-19 infection, which is almost 20% higher than the previous record in 1,419 cases recorded on June 4. According to the latest data released on Thursday, June 11, the state confirmed at least 69,069 cases and 2848 deaths associated with the outbreak.
According to Local 10 News, Governor Ron DeSantis answered the question about canceling plans for reopening due to an increase in the number of cases that the jump was associated with an increase in testing. Florida reports that more than 1.3 million tests for COVID-19 have been conducted, of which 5.3% are positive.
Easing restrictions allowed people to pack up on state beaches, some of which were crammed on weekends. Some health experts fear that reopening, as well as protests over the death of George Floyd against the police, could lead to an increase in the spread of infections. Other states, including Texas and Arizona, also faced the second wave a few weeks after opening.
