Florida sets COVID-19 mortality record for the week

Florida sets a gloomy record – nearly 500 deaths from coronavirus in one week.

This is about 16 percent more than the last highest weekly mortality rate in May. The State Department of Health reported 95 new deaths on Saturday, bringing the total number of deaths per week to 496, an average of 71 deaths per day. The average weekly mortality rate in Florida three weeks ago was about 30 deaths.

The state also reported 10,383 new patients on Saturday, bringing the total number of coronavirus patients in Florida to 254,511, as well as 4,200 deaths.

The World Health Organization warned earlier this week that the world community should expect an increase in mortality after several weeks of a surge in coronavirus. Health experts said the mortality rate is increasing 2-4 weeks after the increase in morbidity.
