Florida’s Largest Teachers Union Sues State For Opening Schools

The state is facing a significant rise in the number of coronavirus cases – more than 10,000 new cases on Monday alone. At the same time, the authorities want to resume the work of schools. For this reason, the largest teachers’ union is suing the state.

The teachers’ union has filed a lawsuit against Governor Ron DeSantis and his administration for ordering all schools to open next month despite the coronavirus surge. The Florida Education Association has accused DeSantis and other officials of violating a constitutional mandate to keep public schools safe. The union asked a state court in Miami to overturn the governor’s order.

“The DeSantis government needs a reality check and we are trying to provide it. The Governor must accept the reality of the situation here in Florida, where the virus is spiraling out of control, ”said Fedric Ingram, president of the Florida Education Association.
